I think I agree, mostly. Every once in a while I run into cases where that sort of attitude seems like a way of weaseling out of something. An author ought to know the facts of their own world, and sometimes issues of right and wrong come down to facts.
I like this page’s approach though. I must have been in an odd mood when I commented; as you can see, I’m usually much more longwinded!
Dranorter, sorry it’s taken till now to get back to you. I really like your comment and I agree– neither of them is completely right or wrong. I love it when a story just presents things, and lets the reader sort it out for themselves, rather than trying to persuade. Having a set agenda like that feels more like propaganda than “art” to me.
