What I reeeally like about their relationship is how you play with the stereotypes, or rather, kick them against the knee by using them anyways and unexpected. Mercy is just being Mercy even if one could say “it’s typically male to show off in front of their girlfriend!” … but is it? Mercy just shows off her way, and that’s not by being stereotypically female, but excelling at what she does. Moll has done the same just a bit ago on stage. And well, she actually (and that way unexpected) was thrilled by Mercy’s showing off in a not very peaceful way. 😀
Forget my ramblings and just keep up the great writing as usual 🙂
Thank you Corbie– and please never apologize for sharing your reflections here. That’s what the comment section is for! My approach with writing Mercy has always been to just try to right a “human” character, with flaws, faults, blind spots, a huge heart (whether she wants one or not), passion, toughness, fragility… all the things that we all carry around. And bringing Molly into the center of it all adds immensely to the rich emotional ground we (and Mercy) get to to explore, discover and express. So it’s great to see that it all of that is coming across for you readers.
I love that my Trekker readers are so kind as to be this worried about Scuf’s welfare 🙂 Trust me, the little fellow is well-loved and well-cared for even if occasionally overlooked for, well, reasons.
