No praise higher that comparing my series to those two classics. While I also want Trekker to feel like it was drawn and written today as far as my storytelling abilities allow, I hope it will also always hold a feel of some classic comic-making. The stuff I first fell in love with myself.
The second panel is great comicking: Perfect fit for the page composition, en-passant exposition that we are in space again, and also a wonderful reminescence of the “classic” period of Trekker (you know, back in the day when it was still black and white).
Thanks, Timothy. Yes, I wanted to have that addressed just in the visuals, since the dialog is having to wrestle with some expository conversation. It’s always good to have something else going on while those sort of conversations happen. It helps to keep things moving to some degree, at least! And I am, obviously, a sucker for that classic, EC-era sci-fi visual of a lush space environment with planes, stars, and that lovely crosshatch pattern. I thak Al Williamson and Wally Wood for that sort of inspiration almost daily 🙂
Wow, the spaceship on the 2nd panel looks inspired by Buck Rogers’ and Flash Gordon’s comic strips!
