Enjoying the story very much, but I’m desperately hoping this situation isn’t going to ruin Mercy’s budding relationship with Molly, which I adore. Here’s hoping the come through it stronger, somehow… 🙁
Thanks for writing, Elerad. And I’m very glad you are liking the story so far. Nothing is more flattering to me as a storyteller than having a reader care about the characters and to have an emotional investment in them. That’s why I do my best to keep the stories as believable as possible, within the rules of it being a high-adventure sci-fi tale, that is.
As to what lies ahead romantically for our favorite bounty hunter, I’m dead against giving any spoilers, so don’t worry that I’ll tip my hand here! Suffice it to say that this story is largely an exercise in putting Mercy through some paces, and in getting her knocked off balance in ways she’s never been before. It seems to me that those episodes in our lives can end up in confusion, upheaval and/or revelation. Often some combination of all three. We’ll all have to hang in there together and see how it all plays out for Mercy, et al 🙂
Mercy handled this more than fine, but Cactus seems really pissed off now. Interesting how he almost over-reacts, probably never noticed that Mercy just blinded Rolo when he rushed for help (all the more with only one eye himself right now). They might have been better off keeping Rolo in close-combat range, and your fighting scenes are quite realistic and make a lot of sense, that’s what makes me think Cactus employs sort of an angry “get evil guy away from his love interest” throws here. 🙂
That’s just what I was going for, Corbie– the sense that the sheriff might be responding with more intensity than a strictly professional approach might call for, and what that might be an indication of. I’m glad the scene pays out realistically for you– and that even in this broad, action scene , some of the subtext I was hoping to thread in works too!
